We believe there are many people with serious allergies to metals, people with strong preferences for style, and people in the demand for jobs that limit the choices of jewelry, or even prohibit jewelry while at work. 

Have your significant other get involved with selecting the ring so that you can properly set aside money to buy it. The total investment commitment in a jewel of a ring can make or break your budget in the early years of their marriage, the cost of the wedding and wedding reception. Good planning is more important than making a show, and unless you are very wealthy, most  partners choosing to begin a life together would rather see a balance achieved between sentiment and spendthrift enthusiasm.   

You should always be clear about your financial limits, needs and goals in shopping for diamonds, whether you're talking to a shopping mall counter person or a professional jewelry designer. Professors are not able to help students who don't supply them with the necessary information to resolve any issues. Unless you've done research online and at a library, plan to spend several hours comparing rings and stones at any given store.

Let the jeweler know if you and your partner are interested in changes to the traditional diamond engagement ring. For privately designed setting, or with a stone from the family your guide should know about all that well.  

It is a matter of taste, but if you would like something that is not a gold or diamond it could be in your financial interest. If the glitter of diamonds does not tickle your partner's fancy, then you should find another stone that your partner will adore.  One option is high quality jade which has a strong and durable sheen similar to that of diamonds. Maybe a sapphire would be appealing. The traditional diamonds can be beautiful to look at and wear and may be your first and favorite choice but you both are not happy with the costs associated with such. There is actually a very wide variety of beautiful synthetically made diamonds available which are even more beautiful than real ones.

To begin buying an engagement ring then you must consider all these things before you go into a jeweler and shop. Until you have considered these issues, you are striking out in an ocean of choices.
